Florence M. Craffey (nee Nolan) of River Vale, NJ. Born September 24, 1929 in Union City, NJ, to Thomas and Florence Nolan, passed away suddenly on March 1, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Florence was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, James (2009).
Florence attended St. Michael’s High School in Union City, NJ. She served as a voluntary Welfare Director in River Vale, NJ, and with her friends formed the Bergen County Soup Kitchen. Florence was also an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Park Ridge, NJ, where she was a daily communicant, a member of the Rosary Altar Society and a Eucharistic Minister, in addition to a moderator for YCS (Young Christian Students). She was a recipient of a Community Services Award in 2009 from the Bough of Park Ridge. Along with her husband, Jim, Florence owned and operated a personnel staffing business in Park Ridge, NJ, before retiring. She was a proud member of Arcola Country Club, where she enjoyed a nice round of golf. Aside from bowling and playing bridge with friends, Florence cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Florence is survived by her children, Marianne and Tom Hamilton of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Patricia Roettger of Park Ridge, NJ, Kathleen Craffey of River Vale, NJ, Jim and Kerry Craffey of Allendale, NJ, Tom and Michelle Craffey of Garnerville, NY and Ed and Kathleen Craffey of Park Ridge, NJ. Florence is also survived by grandchildren Melanie, Matthew, Colleen, Caroline, Kristen, Elizabeth, Sean, Theresa, Caitlin, Mary Grace, and Molly and great-grandchildren James, Madison, Tyler, Ryder and Kiara, and sisters, Jane Fair, Kathleen Gianinio (Phil),and Mary Susan McConville, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 5, 2-4 and 6-9PM. The Funeral Mass celebrating Florence’s life and faith will be held at Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church, Park Ridge, NJ on Thursday, March 6 at 10AM. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ
