Donis Susan (nee Vough) age 83, of Hillsdale, formerly of Montvale and Wood-Ridge died on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 after a long illness.
Daughter of Susan (nee McKeckney) and Tillman Alfred, Donis grew up
in Wood-Ridge. As a teen she worked as a candy striper in Hackensack
Hospital.
She married Roy King in 1950. They divorced in 1989 and were better friends divorced than when they were married.
Donis was involved with the Girl Scouts, eventually becoming Troop Consultant for Montvale. She also worked almost 4000 hours at Pascack Valley Hospital, mostly in the Hospitality (coffee) Shop. She enjoyed traveling, vacations at the Jersey Shore, scuba diving, and was an avid reader.
Donis is survived by her daughters, Deborah Ackerman and her husband Bruce, and Diane Callaghan and her husband John, grandchildren Ryan Clynes and his wife Mary Rose, Brianna Ackerman and her husband Marcus Jesberg, David, Dima,
and James Ackerman and Keri and Robbie Callaghan. Donis is also survived by two great granddaughters, Penny and Winter Clynes.
Donis was predeceased by her ex-husband Roy and by her grandson Christopher
Ackerman. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Thursday, April 23 (TODAY) from 2-4 and 7-9PM. The Funeral Liturgy celebrating Donis’ life and faith will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 326 Hillsdale Avenue, Hillsdale, NJ on Friday, April 24 at 11AM. Cremation will be private.
