Alma Maria Perez, 85, of Westwood, New Jersey, passed away peacefully early on the morning of May 25, 2020, at home, surrounded by her loving children. She was born at Columbus Hospital in the borough of Manhattan on March 11, 1935 to Julia Portillo and Juan Pola.
Alma was a long-time resident of Washington Township. She managed Paper Tiger, a small craft and party supply store in Paramus Park Mall before working for Pascack Valley Hospital in Food Service where she worked for almost 30 years, retiring in 1999, but still working part time. Shortly after retirement, she sold her home and moved to Westwood, New Jersey. Alma is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Perez.
Alma is survived by her three children, Diana formerly married to Raymond Johns, Jr, Lorraine married to Ronald De Paola, Jr, and son Robert, married to Stella Mascari, nine grandchildren, Brandon Johns and wife Jennifer Dietrich, Ronald DePaola III, Ryan Johns, Michelle Marinan and husband Michael, Joseph De Paola, Anthony De Paola and wife Lara, Christopher De Paola and wife Jackie, Gabrielle Kriegel and husband Ben, Robert Perez, and seven great grandchildren, Nicholas, Julia, Gwenevere, Graham, Charlotte, Steven and Truman.
A private service will be held this Friday, May 29 at Becker Funeral Home followed by interment at George Washington Memorial Park at a later date.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital, or American Diabetes Association in her honor.
