Ba Ngoai, 
Growing up in Ohio, as a kid I had fond memories of when you would come to visit or when we would come visit you in New Jersey. I am thankful to have had such a wonderful and caring grandmother. I am sadden I cannot say good bye to you as I am high risk from this pandemic so I can't travel or be around other people in public. I hope to visit you soon. I love you Ba Ngoai. 

Ba Ngoai was always Ba Ngoai.  I don't think I learned her full name until I was in 5th or 6th grade. Some of my favorite memories of her was when she came to California in the late 70's. She was always so patient with her 4 grand daughters especially with me since I couldn't sit still for long. She made blankets for us and knitted a sweater vest for me to wear. I also loved watching her brush her long hair and tying it up into a bun. Ngoai always had a smile on her face, especially when everyone came together to celebrate birthdays and holidays. She had a way of making you got a red envelope 🧧 every new year. If Dennis wasn't around,  she would always ask me where he is and how he is doing.  She always called him "Dennit." I miss being able to tell her about what I'm doing and that I do eat well and exercise occasionally. 

I miss you so much Ba Ngoai.  I want to bake you a vanilla pound cake because it makes you happy and one of your favorite dessert.  

Thank you for taking care of me, braiding my hair and telling me  and my sisters Vietnamese fairy tale, Tam Cam, over and over again until we fell asleep when we were young.  Your love and dedication will be remembered.
