The family ultimately settled in Vallejo, California where Bob grew up. Bob drew friends to him everywhere he went. He was an excellent trumpet player and played with a group in his high school and junior college years. The group played for parties and school events.
During the summer, Bob and his friends would hitchhike to Yosemite where they would help campers put up their tents for money. He made very good money during the summer that carried him through the school year, plus he got to enjoy the beauty and serenity of Yosemite. After Bob graduated from Vallejo Senior high school, he started studies at Vallejo Junior College.
Bob married Janice Marie Becker on 20 February 1965 in Vallejo California. They had one daughter together, Lora Ann. He wanted to make music a career, but it didn’t pay enough to support his family. He took work with Ford motor company and worked at various Ford dealerships in the San Francisco Bay area and Lake Tahoe.
Bob and Jan were divorced in August 1973. He went on to marry Joanne Hodges in 1979. Through that marriage he gained his daughter Alison. Bob and Joanne were divorced, and in 1996 he met Bonnie, who became his longtime companion of 27 years.
Bob’s sister Ann Bookmyer predeceased him in 2016. He is survived by his two daughters, Lora Ann Willyard (Gregg) and Alison Means (Jason); his grandchildren, Noah, Seth (Kaitlyn), Eden, and Christopher; and his two nieces Sharon and Susan.
Our dad loved his family fiercely. He taught us to love and be loved, be honest and fair and to always give grace with a genuine heart. He loved his friends like family and always had a story to tell.
Dad loved his daughters and grandchildren with an unconditional love and taught us all to do the same. We have the assurance that he is playing his trumpet in Heaven’s band today.
May our hero always rest in peace knowing how much his family adored him. We love you always and forever.
Lora Ann and Alison
