Ken Schow, 72, passed away with his family by his side at his home on Thursday, September 26, 2019. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sopi, his favorite daughter Tauri, his favorite step-sons Scott and Steve, and his son Tim.
Ken was born on September 5, 1947 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada and from there, he made his way to Southern California. Ken had a good life, he was a carpet cleaner, Chiropractor and then elementary teacher in the LA school district. Ken even motivated his students to run the LA Marathon. Ken and his various students ran the LA Marathon at least 7 times. Ken and Sopi opened a premier salon in Huntington Beach, where they devoted the majority of their time together – Sopi creating art for her clients and Ken doing “honey-dos” anything Sopi asked to keep the salon running and their stylist happy.
Ken always loved helping others and was very active in his church. Ken would visit members, drive members to their doctor appointments, or just give advice. Ken also loved welding and fixing things, even when things weren’t broken. Ken would find some excuse to weld or tinker with his Mazda Miata. Ken’s favorite store was Home Depot, favorite TV show Fox News, favorite US Presidents – Reagan and Trump. Favorite place to drive – salon and to visit his daughter in Reno.
Ken also devoted his time to his family near and far. He always made an effort to keep in contact with us by calling or making a last minute or planned visit. When Ken came up for a visit, you could always find him napping on the couch.
Ken loved his grandchildren Ella (10) and Olivia (6) very much. Ken would even play his trumpet while Ella or Olivia played the piano, over FaceTime. Ken was very proud of his grandchildren, even Tim’s three girls.
Celebration of Life Services will be held on October 12th at 10 a.m., at 12160 Valley View Street, Garden Grove, CA. Ken would not want us to grieve terribly for him, so do not wear black to his Celebration of Life Services. Instead, wear fun bright colors and be prepared to tell hilarious stories about him.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.westminstermemorial.net for the Schow family.
