Joyce Ann Summers, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on November 26, 2024, in Westminster, California, at the age of 90. Born on October 19, 1934, in Nashville, Tennessee, Joyce grew up with a strong sense of family and a deep love for life. She graduated from Compton High School and made California her home, where she built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to her family.
Joyce met the love of her life, Billy Kyle Summers, through a mutual friend in Compton, California. They married on December 25, 1953, at the Ministry of the Church of Christ in Compton. Joyce was a devoted wife and stay-at-home mother, raising their three children: Billy Jr., Deborah, and Catherine. Her family was the center of her world, and she took great pride in being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Known for her sharp mind and vivid memory, Joyce was always the one to turn to for details on past events. She could engage in spirited conversations, especially about politics, for hours. Her laughter and distinctive voice were the hallmarks of her personality, and she was always ready to offer help or advice, no matter the time of day. Joyce was independent, determined, and stubborn at times, always getting things done her way.
Joyce had a deep love for nature and animals, and one of her greatest joys was the company of her favorite cat, Minnie. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, caring for her roses, feeding the hummingbirds, stray cats, and squirrels. She also enjoyed watching baseball, particularly the Dodgers, offering her opinions on how the team could improve. Joyce loved collecting bells and music boxes, finding beauty in life’s simple pleasures.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Sr.; her son, Billy Jr.; her grandson, David; her parents, Leslie and Hester; and her siblings, Jimmy, Leslie, Tommy, Mary, and Dorothy. Joyce is survived by her daughters, Deborah and Catherine; her grandchildren, Shannon, Jason, Sarah, Ryan, and Kalie; and her great-grandchildren, Carolynn, Hannah, Saphira, Mackenzie, Bethany, Luna, Kiara, Joseph, Anthony, Jordan, Lincoln, Archer, and Jackson. Joyce’s legacy of love, strength, and dedication will live on through them.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, from 11:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. in the Westminster Memorial Park Main Chapel, with a service beginning at 12:30 P.M. A graveside service will follow in the Sunset Garden at Westminster Memorial Park.
Flowers may be sent to the mortuary for the service or to the Summers family at 9052 Stoneridge Ave, Westminster, CA 92683.
Joyce’s spirit will be missed by all who knew her, but her memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those whose lives she touched.
