What a beautiful life of a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. I remember the smell of the amazing cookies you would make before I would come over and I would always ask for another and then another and you would always sneak me an extra cookie when no one was looking. Playing with Einstein in your living room and spending summers together will always be one of my most cherished memories. Luke and Lyla were blessed to have you as a great-great grandmother and it was beautiful to see the light in your eyes seeing those kiddos running around during birthday parties. Jenniffer and I will miss you and we know we will see you again when our time comes.

My first time meeting you was down in California and Don and Georgia took you and Michael and I out to lunch - you and Georgia both ordered margaritas and it when it was my turn to place my order you looked over at me and said "well, are you going to be able to keep up with the big girls honey?" I can remember that moment still to this day :) Cheers to you Eileen, you will be missed! 

Eileen was a great Mother in Law.  We had lots of fun with her at  family gatherings in Oregon and California.  The gatherings sometimes got a little out of control,  leaving me with some of the best memories.  
I was proud to be in the #1 Club, but I relinquished it to R.J. because he asked Eileen to marry him!
She will be missed.

My sweet Grandma. What an amazing life she lived. I always looked forward to her birthday cards, complete novellas that challenged my cursive reading skills, caring enough to cover every square inch of white space.

Her hugs were always the best, maybe it was because we lived so far away and it’d be a long time between visits, but it was always with an, “Ohhhhh, Michael”, and felt like they meant something.

Mostly I remember talking with her like a buddy, the type of buddy you don’t see in a year, but when you do, it’s like you haven’t spent a day apart. And she could always give it as well as she could take it. It’s a unique quality she had to build special relationships with people, in our case, despite a generational gap and being miles apart. She was a Grandma and a friend.

I take comfort in the fact that she lived as full a life as any of us could ever hope to live. I’m sad for our loss, but wow, what a full book she wrote and the many people she touched that will carry her legacy forward.

I love you Grandma.

I have so many fond memories of you Grandma!! I remember as a little kid every time we’d come visit we’d always stop by the Eagles to see you and grandpa! You were always happy and your laughter is one I will never forget! Now you’re probably in Heaven having a party of a life time with mom! Love you always!!

I have such wonderful memories you will be missed but always with me. 

When I think about Grandma Cook I think about many things, her laughter is probably first, and her smile, and her dancing eyes. Her eyes! They really were the window to her soul, sparkling, intent, mischievous. I can see them so clearly when I think of her. 

I recall cracking walnuts and eating bushels of them in her backyard on Freeman in Long Beach, and the chocolate chip cookies she made with those walnuts may have set me on my path to becoming a chef, they were so damn good.

I think about her encouragement, her happiness for my success in life or love, and her ability to cut through any difficulty by focusing me on the good in each situation. I never felt unfairly judged, or left out, she always made me feel welcome, loved, nurtured and cared for....isn't that pretty much the pinnacle any of us could achieve?

I love you forever, Grandma, and I hope I was as good a grandson to you as you were a grandparent to me. 

I will always cherish my memories of my beautiful grandmother sharing her stories of her childhood and youth with me, I was so very lucky to have so many years with her. 

Mom loved many things. She loved to laugh and share a good story. She loved her flower gardens. I remember her tending her flowers on Freeman and later at Leisure World. She was so upset when she got to the point she was unable to get down and back up again. She loved to dance. I used to love to watch her and daddy at the Eagles. She worked on the committee planning the dances - Christmas, New Years, Valentines, Hawaiian. She learned to line dance with a group of her friends at Leisure World and they took a trip down the Mississippi on a river boat. The people who ran it asked them to perform one night.  But most of all she loved her family. Your leaving leaves a hole in our hearts.

Aunt Eileen started life as a Mundy in South Dakota with all the Mundy family-Grand ma Lola and Grand pa Jim, her brother Bill {my dad}  her  other brother Bob and her sister Mary Ellen.  Aunt Eileen was the youngest.  I am Pat Mundy, her niece.  As a child, I can remember day long trips from Los Angeles to her home in Long Beach. I along with my husband, Joe Grant, would sometimes see her at  get-togethers at my parents house.  We had visited her at her home and would sometimes talk to on her the phone , visiting and seeing how she was doing.  She was always laughing, so  up beat and seeing the best in everything. I always picture her riding around on her three wheeler.  Her last note was "the new three wheeler. I just love it. They are so popular here. "

I can honestly say, I’ve never heard of any other woman in her 90s still riding bicycles and doing water aerobics with the girls. My grandma was a true force to be reckoned with! She was sweet and humble, and absolutely sassy.  We marvel at the near 99 years of non stop living she experienced. We will all miss her greatly. 

On a return driving trip from Eugene, OR to So California, Eileen, Donna and I stopped at a motel in Stockton, CA to spend the night. We found  a Denny's adjacent to the motel and proceeded to order dinner. Eileen ordered a sandwich. Donna and I ordered banana splits. Eileen said you can't have dessert before dinner. We said, we are big kids now and can order anything we want. Her look of astonishment was priceless and thereafter on any long trip with us she ordered dessert even as we ordered entrees. I loved her dearly and will miss being able to tease her.

A magnificent, beautiful lady who loved life to the fullest and adored her family and friends.  She was gracious and kind who loved good times wherever she was.  I swear she had a hollow leg because she could out drink all of us.  There was a contest as to who was #1; truly it was RJ at home, Don when visiting in the NW and Al for dancing.  You are a treasure who will be missed by all who knew and loved you.



My Grandma, baked the best cookies, gave the best hugs, shared the best stories, and had the most beautiful blue eyes.  I appreciate every conversation we shared, and even when the conversations weren't much...I appreciate the way we would just look into each other's eyes and smile as we held hands.  She loved a good foot rub, a glass of wine, and any sweet treats she could get her hands on.  She was the sweetest and the baddest damn Cook Broad ever, and I am blessed to have been her granddaughter!

I remember when I was trying to ask your permission to marry Debi and I got so nervous I asked if you would marry me instead.  You looked at Debi and said "well, I am not sure but I think one of us is getting married."  You accepted me into the family and made me #1 (DON) as proven by the Christmas cards we had so much fun making to send to Don.  You will be missed.

I have a life time of memories and as with every mother and daughter, some good and some not so good, LOL.  I could write about our crazy train trip to Oregon, or the night mom, Georgia, Michelle and I wound up at a male exotic dancer review (all stories for another day) but I think my favorite memory is just the two of us sitting in the swing in my backyard, her favorite spot to sit, and just watching the birds and the squirrel and watching the garden change with the seasons, holding hands and talking mom and daughter talk.  I miss you mom but I am so glad you are with Georgia now and at peace.  I love you.
