Ed was born June 20, 1941, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He served stateside in the USAF in the early 1960’s; during training in Colorado he learned electronics. After briefly working as a civilian in Vietnam repairing helicopter electronics later that decade, he settled in California, where his first job in his adopted state was with Northrop Aerospace in Hawthorne. He subsequently worked in electronics for several other companies, including California Computer Products and Printronix.
Ed and Kathy Marsden started dating in 1976 and married in 1979; they were together 43 years.
Ed enjoyed taking their son Mike to Star Wars, other science fiction and James Bond movies. Ed was also always excited about the newest technology and would call Mike to tell him all about it! Ed reveled in being a grandfather and got a kick out of taking Christopher to explore new parks or try new activities.
Ed admired architecture of all types, in particular that of Frank Lloyd Wright. Kathy credits Ed with teaching her about all the performing arts, as he loved going to museums, symphonies, movies and plays. He enjoyed listening to classical music, especially Wagner, although he greatly appreciated Clair De Lune by Claude Debussy. George Bizet’s Carmen was his favorite Opera. He was a huge Gershwin fan and loved "Rhapsody in Blue” and “Porgy and Bess.” He took pleasure in reading, notably authors Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie and Stuart Woods. West Side Story was his best-liked musical. Ed and Kathy were also avid bird watchers. Ed was a devotee of Monty Python. His own inherent great sense of humor would always lift everyone’s spirits.
Ed is survived by his son, Michael Johnson; grandson, Christopher Johnson; brother, Willard Johnson; sister, Althea Statum; sister Dottye Prater; and his love, Kathleen Johnson.
He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life for Ed will be held Friday, October 11, 2019 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM in the Main Chapel at Westminster Memorial Park Mortuary, 14801 Beach Blvd, Westminster, CA 92683, followed by a final blessing and interment.
