Abraham Collins, known to friends as "Abe", passed away peacefully on July 14, 2018, at the age of 87 years.
Born in Honolulu Hawaii on January 10, 1931, Abe enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1950 and went on to lead Marines and serve his country in the Korean War and two tours of duty in Vietnam where he earned the Purple Heart. Abe retired from the Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant after 20 years of service and continued to work and serve veterans at the VA Hospital in Long Beach until he retired from the VA at age 55.
Abe loved the Lord and his wife Shirley who passed away in 2014. He enjoyed family, gardening, golf and was a dedicated Toys for Tots organizer for 30 straight years. Abe would often combine his passions by organizing golf tournaments that required a new toy or cash donation for Toys for Tots.
He is survived by his son, Abe Collins and wife Debbie, daughter Amanda Yee and husband Randall, and daughter Shirley Collins.
A Celebration of Abe's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, August 4, at Wintersburg Presbyterian Church, 2000 N. Fairview St., Santa Ana, CA 92706, with Pastor Fred Tanizaki officiating. Casual colorful attire. Reception to follow at the Church. Interment will be 2:30 p.m. at Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd., Westminster, CA 92683
