Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he grew up in Niles Ohio and attended The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, graduating in 1977. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Utah and after teaching Pharmacy students at the University of Tennessee in Memphis TN, he moved to Richmond VA and taught Pharmacy students at Virginia Commonwealth’s College of Pharmacy from 1982 until 2004. His teaching, research, and patient care activities focused on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs in patients with renal impairment, with the goal of improved patient outcomes. He was an active member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy – Nephrology Practice Research Network and other pharmacy and nephrology organizations, and served on the nephrology editorial panel for the Annals of Pharmacotherapy.
In 2004, he and his wife moved to Thousand Oaks California where he worked as a Clinical Scientist for Amgen Inc until the time of his death.
In addition to spending time with his family, Tom was passionate about his running, masters swim club, skiing and a new found love of Triathlon competition. He was an avid home brewer of beers for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Comstock, sons Benjamin Comstock (Leesburg VA) and Grant Comstock (Peace Corp – Sebetia Lesotho), daughter Allison Comstock (Simi Valley), his mother Ruth Comstock (Richmond), brothers William Comstock (San Diego), Robert Comstock (Pittsburgh), and George Comstock (Richmond).
