Shirley Grace Tweten

Shirley Grace Tweten of Simi Valley, California passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at the age of 85. She was born on June 23, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan and her family moved to Santa Monica, California at the age of five where she grew up. Together, Shirley on her guitar and her brother Danny playing his steel guitar played many country songs and won first place on many radio shows, played at weddings, dances, and even at her own wedding reception.

She worked as a retail clerk at Westward Ho Markets stocking her general merchandise and health and beauty aids sections. Before that she was a Van de Kamps lady stocking, ordering bread and pastries and worked at Mc Donald’s as a swing manager.

Shirley and her husband John were always in love and happlily married for 62 years. They were actively involved in the church, their childrens activites, bowling, square dancing and loved their many fur babies through the years. Mom loved sewing, photography, playing her guitar and machine embroidering.

She is preceded in death by her parents Charles Joseph Kral and Beatrice Helen Kral (Panek), brother Daniel Mark Kral, husband John Forrest Tweten, and son Dale Forrest Tweten.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren.

Daughter, Molly Bea Martinez (Tweten), husband Manuel Rafael Martinez, their children Joshua Charles Martinez and his wife Jessica Rose Martinez (Nuttall), and Yasmina Grace Martinez.

Daughter, Penny Jan Tweten, her children Brittney Jan Houghton (St. Clair) and her husband Buck Austin Houghton, Brandon Nichols St. Clair, and Shirley Grace St. Clair.

The family would like to thank all the med techs, caregivers and staff at Oakmont Assisted Living for the care and compassion they showed our loved one throughout her stay and in her final days. Special mention to Vivian, Ethan, Iris, Paisley, Jake, Mayra, Hannah, Chloe, Lilieth and Kevionne. A heartfelt gratitiude for her hospice team, Irma, Erica, Hope, Denise and Leticia. Without the support and love of everyone involved, we would have been lost.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Shirley that will be held Friday, April 14, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park, Mortuary & Crematory, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, CA 91362.

Shirley’s funeral service will occur on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2949 Alamo St, Simi Valley, CA 93063.

Graveside service will be on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, CA 91362.

A reception will follow her funeral services on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Mortuary, 5600 Lindero Canyon Rd., Westlake Village, CA.
