Roy Edwin Parle

Roy was born in Los Angeles, California to John Edwin and Ola Bernice Parle. After graduating from John Burroughs High School, Roy attended UCLA on a Naval ROTC Scholarship. He honorably served a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Great Lakes area. Roy transferred to BYU, where he met his future wife, Karen. They married in 1964 in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Roy completed his Dental and Orthodontic Specialty training at USC. In 1977, he started his practice in Simi Valley, became a Board Certified Orthodontist, and later taught part-time at the USC Graduate Orthodontic Program. He continued to practice Orthodontics for more than 40 years. Roy loved his profession and his patients, and received many awards for excellence in his field.

Roy had a kind disposition and a generous nature. He was honest, forgiving, and always went out of his way to help others. He was a talented artist and had excellent penmanship. He loved to read, golf, garden, travel, spend time with his family, and research family history.

Roy is survived by his wife, Karen and his sister, Lora Van Quathem of Phoenix, AZ (Bob). He is also survived by his children: Jennifer Stringham (Dave) of Provo, UT, James Parle of Kuna, ID, Dr. Steven Parle (Sarah) of Simi Valley, CA, Stephanie Parle of Simi Valley, CA and Courtney Hansen (Steven) of San Diego, CA, as well as 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

The family is especially grateful for everyone that made it possible for Roy to remain home and lovingly cared for during the last few months of his life. Extraordinary efforts were made by his sweet wife, Karen, as well as his daughter, Stephanie, who became his full-time caregivers. They also wish to thank Lisa and Karina from TLC Hospice for their assistance and kindness.

A service will be held in Simi Valley, on June 11th at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Sinaloa Building). He will be laid to rest at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village, California.
