Robert “Reber” Carroll, age 63 of Westlake Village, CA, passed away suddenly, but peacefully in his home on March 11th 2017. Reber, as he was known to his friends and family, grew up in Rye, NY, the youngest child of Robert and Virginia “Ginny” Carroll. As a child, he showed an early interest in the sciences and would spend hours in the basement fiddling with his ham radio. He attended Lawrenceville School in his teenage years and later, Cornell University where he obtained his bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering. His fondest memories of college involved his Sigma Pi fraternity brothers and their touring band, Zoltan.
His love of music led him out west, where was brought on as an Engineer for Capitol Records, then moved on to Warner Bros. Records, and eventually became president of Amigo Studios. During his time in the music industry, he worked with notable artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Prince, Van Halen, Neil Young, and many others.
Always ahead of his time, Reber founded his own computer company in 1982, National Microcomputer which grew into Digicomp Networks. Reber shared his love of technology with his children, teaching them responsibility and technical competency by having them build their own (and sometimes clients') personal computers.
Reber was happiest when he was playing music, participating in Ham Radio contests, and vacationing with family. He was a master at finding that perfect vacation house where he and his family could retreat. He was funny, warm, intelligent, and kind, and an incendiary bass player.
He is survived by his wife Terry; his children Meagen, Haley, Logan, Spencer, and Kelsey; his sisters Linda Carroll and her spouse Anne Dacy, Cristine “Crickie” Kimball and her spouse Michael, many cousins, nieces and nephews, his in-laws The Brancato Family, and his beloved dog, Penny Lane. He was predeceased by his mother and his father, and his stepfather Ted Parmalee.Services for Reber will be held on Saturday March 18th. There will be a mass at 11am at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, followed by a funeral service at Pierce Brother's Valley Oaks at 12pm.
