An only child, Marion E. Moynihan (nee’ Long) was born on December 24, 1917 in Lowell, Mass. to Elizabeth (Bessie) Taylor and James (Jim) Long. Her maternal and paternal great-grandparents came to the US from County Cork, Ireland in the mid-1800’s around the time of the Irish Famine and settled in Maine and Massachusetts. Marion attended St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Worcester, MA graduating in 1939. She moved to NYC, where she worked as an RN, before returning to Worcester and private duty nursing until her May, 1941 marriage to a 2nd generation Irish beau, John Francis Moynihan, a Major in the USAF and veteran of World War II and the Korean War, who worked in law enforcement and corrections, both in the military and in civilian service. Marion and John raised their only son, Timothy, in Worcester and Marlborough, Mass. before retiring in 1971 to Clearwater, FLA where they lived until John’s death in 2001, after 59 years of marriage. A member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, in Clearwater, she was active in the Women’s Guild and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul’s. In 2008 she decided to move to CA to be closer to her devoted son, Tim (aka Jim Long), who followed her in death by only 2 days, passing on May 30 at home with his wife, Deborah, in Los Angeles. She is survived by her grandson, James Moynihan of Hawaii, her great-granddaughter, Diana Chiaki Moynihan of Tokyo, Japan, and her beloved daughter-in-law, Deborah DeBerry Long. She leaves behind cherished cousins in the Rich and Brennan families in the Worcester/Marlborough MA area.
