He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Patricia Ann Schumacher, his sons Thomas R Schumacher (Nancy) and David J Schumacher (Pusita Gibbs), his grandson Thomas M Schumacher (Mary Aguilar and children JoJo & Breeze), his uncle Gilbert Erwin, his cousins Linda (Steve), Alicia, and Matthew Langton, his cousin Philip Erwin, his niece Barbara Schumacher-Brown (Edwin Brown), his nephew Steven Schumacher, his nephew John Schumacher (Stacey Fong-Schumacher), his great niece Gabriela Fong-Schumacher, his cousin Adrianne Statum, and cousin Jim (Jeanne) Murray.
Keith was pre-deceased by his father John A Schumacher, his mother Flora Fay Schumacher, and his brother John L Schumacher.
Keith attended school in California, graduating from Van Nuys High School in 1940. He worked for several years at Douglas Aircraft Company and then joined the military, serving in the Army Air Corps as a corporal in the 1077th AAF Unit during WWII from 1943-1946.
After his honorable discharge, Keith began his career in plumbing, first working at his father’s business in Van Nuys and then becoming an owner of his own business, West Valley Plumbers, in Woodland Hills, CA. He worked as a Plumbing Contractor for 30 years from 1946-1976.
Keith began his second career with the City of Los Angeles Building & Safety Department as a Plumbing Inspector, specializing in high rise fire sprinklers, where we worked for an additional 13 years, retiring in 1992.
Keith and Patricia resided in Northridge, CA until 1976, moved to Thousand Oaks for 4 years, moved to Minden, Nevada for 3 years, and then returned to Thousand Oaks in 1983 where they have resided for the past 30 years.
After retiring Keith enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the cabin that he, his wife, Patricia, and his mother, Fay, built in Kings Canyon Nat’l Park. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Japan, spending 2 weeks in Maui every November, and tending to his beautiful gardens at their home in Thousand Oaks.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, February 21, 2014, 2:00 pm at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks – Griffin Memorial Park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Rd, Westlake Village, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
