Jim was born in Elma, New York on November 11, 1962 to Donald M. Carlson and Jean C. (Yehl) Carlson both of Lancaster, New York. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Michigan in Engineering and a Master’s Degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Chemical Engineering. He spent a lifetime in pharmaceutical research and development, always passionate about the work he did and the people with whom he worked.
Jim had numerous interests. He believed in the importance of giving back to the community. He was an active participant in the Las Flores Community Garden in Thousand Oaks and a volunteer with Pink Paws Rescue and Adoption where he fostered and performed a variety of activities to help find loving homes for cats in need. Jim was an amazing chef making the most delectable concoctions created using the produce he grew which he would share freely with family and friends. He was an amazing wood worker, accomplished musician, and enjoyed the theater throughout his lifetime. He had an infectious smile and a kind and compassionate spirit. Jim was a friend to everyone, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Donald, and his mother, Jean. He leaves behind his wife, Deborra Carlson, and daughter, Jennifer Carlson of Thousand Oaks and his son, Michael Bosland and daughter-in-law, Roxanna (Farmer) Bosland of Moorpark. Additionally, he leaves behind his sister Linda Matyskiela, and her husband Joseph, of Haverton, Pennsylvania, along with his niece, Kelly Matyskiela of Florida.
A memorial service will be held on January 18, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the chapel at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, CA. Jim loved the relaxed business casual attire on the west coast so the family wants you to know that if that is your style too, that is perfectly fine.
