

Jack Maris Oechsel of Pebble Beach, California passed away on October 19,2024 at the age of 96. He was born on January 12, 1928, in Los Angeles, California where he grew up. He attended Third Street Grammar School, John Burroughs Middle School, and Los Angeles High School.
After he finished high school, Jack joined the Navy and was stationed with the Pacific Fleet as a Photographer’s Mate from 1946 to 1948.
He graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1953. He was an award-winning member of the Swim Team.
He was married to Joan Paschke in 1956 and raised four children in the Los Angeles area.
Jack started working as a sales associate for Industrial Asphalt. He was eventually promoted and became the President and CEO of this company which grew into the largest asphalt paving company in the United States.
Jack and Joan retired to Pebble Beach, where they enjoyed golf, traveling, and many eclectic activities.
For the last 14 years they have resided at the University Village in Thousand Oaks, where they were very involved in their community.
Jack actively supported Catholic charities and the Boy Scouts.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife Joan, his mother Blanche and father Alfred.
He was survived by his children Lisa, Michael, Mitchell, and Trish, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Jack is a fifth generation Califorian, his direct ancestors were actively involved with the original building and maintaining of the California Missions along the El Camino Real.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at the Old Mission Santa Inez on November 8th at 10:00 am.
Interment of Jack and Joan to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Santa Barbara with a ceremony directed by the Pastor of Old Mission Santa Barbara and a Military Funeral Honor Guard.
