Gertrude "Trudy" Marie Johnson passed away in her home in Westlake Village, California on September 26, 2019. She was 96 years old.
Trudy was born on July 19, 1923 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Iowa State Teachers College in 1945 (now the University of Northern Iowa). In 1946, she married her beloved Elmer Johnson with whom they shared 62 wonderful years* 1956, after living and teaching in Anamosa, Iowa, Trudy, Elmer, and their two sons Doug and Ron, moved to Mountain View, California where Elmer became an Elementary School Principal. In 1957, they relocated to neighboring Los Altos. In 1961, they gave birth to their daughter Judy.
After teaching second grade in the Mountain View School District, Trudy attended San Jose State University where she earned her Library Science Degree. She went on to become a Librarian at Covington Junior High School in Los Altos and supported with her husband, who served on the education committee at the Los Altos United Methodist Church for nearly 39 years.
Several generations of the extended Johnson family participated in numerous sports activities at their cabin in the Sierras, which served as a base for skiing, hiking and swimming. In their retirement years, Trudy and Elmer enjoyed traveling in their motor home, which included frequent outings with the Palo Alto Elks Club, group “The Wheelers.”
In 1997, they moved to Westlake Village, California. They enjoyed happy times at the lake with family and friends. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, reading and cheering on the Lakers. They became members of the United Methodist Church of Westlake Village.
Trudy is survived by her son Doug (Los Gatos, CA), daughter Judy (Chatsworth, CA), and four grandchildren, Erik, Kristen, Brett and Ryan.
