June was born February 16th 1929 to Alice and John Hershberger in Klamath Falls, Oregon where she was raised and grew to appreciate the small town way of life. While attending the University of Oregon in Eugene, June met C.E. ‘Dutch’ Reich and married him in 1949.
After Dutch graduated, he accepted a job with General Motors Buick Division. The job required travel and several relocations to various cities across the West Coast. June became his “‘chief cheerleader”. Packing, moving, and settling in several new towns, becoming her full time job.
Several years and three children later, the family moved to Thousand Oaks and never looked back. Arriving in 1963, the town was small and away from the So. Ca. city sprawl. June embraced the growing community and involved herself in many activities. School programs, youth programs, booster clubs and more! She enjoyed being involved with her children and meeting and making lifelong friends.
When the children were older, June took a job with the Lombard Medical Group. The business grew from the founding handful of doctors, to at least 15+ full time physicians, nurses, technicians, and a full multi-tasking staff. June’s responsibilities grew as well, being promoted to Office Manager, a job she held until retiring after 25 years.
Concurrent to her career, her family was thriving! Careers starting, engagements, marriages, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her life was very full.
June became the primary caregiver for her husband, Dutch in 2000 until his passing in 2008. June then helped with her great grandchildren and her best friend Shirley’s, twin great grandsons. What fun they had changing diapers, hanging laundry and playing with those boys!
June started each and every day reading the Bible, as her faith was always the guiding light in her life. June loved spending time with her family and friends. She looked forward to the conversation, laughter, togetherness, and shared love. She enjoyed going shopping, even online, reading a good book, watching Dancing with the Stars, Survivor, The Amazing Race, and all things Hallmark! She relished watching her grandchildren grow in their careers and raise their own families, and so enjoyed watching her great grandchildren play sports, perform in recitals, graduate and begin the next chapter of their lives. She loved each and every one of us deeply.
June lived her life to the fullest. Whether having a Friday outing with her girlfriends or a glass of wine with friends and family, this made her heart happy. She was adventurous, getting a tattoo at the age of 90 that read Joy to celebrate her Joy of Life. We will miss her voice of reason, wisdom, laughter and her sweet hugs and kisses. Rest in peace.
Mom, enjoy your next journey on the wings of angels and the embrace of your family and friends that preceded you.
