Edmund Kai Kwok Chung was born on July 7, 1954 in Hong Kong. He is the son of Pui Chung (factory owner) and Waihing Lui (housewife) and the fourth child of seven siblings. Edmund enjoyed his childhood by watching movies at the theatre, picnicking with friends, and playing soccer.
In the 1970s, Edmund met his high school sweetheart, Lisa Ko Chung, and they married in 1984 in Hong Kong. Intelligent and curious, Edmund was a history buff who won the Chinese equivalent of Jeopardy in Hong Kong, and often retold his underdog victory with his family and his grand prize trip to Japan. Edmund and Lisa have stayed at each other’s side for over 40 years.
In 1987, Edmund and Lisa migrated to Thousand Oaks, CA where they raised their three daughters, Lydia, Esther, and Bonnie. From cheering them on at their soccer tournaments to supporting their academic endeavors, Edmund was a devoted father who was always there for his girls. He prioritized their happiness and success over his own and encouraged his daughters to follow their passions and enjoy every moment in life.
Edmund’s favorite hobbies included fishing, reading, and keeping up-to-date with the modern Top 40 Hits. He loved watching his favorite professional soccer team, FC Barcelona, and often recapped play-by-play material to his family. He enjoyed eating all kinds of food, especially seafood, sushi, and Baskin-Robbins Jamoca Almond Fudge in Family Fun-sized cones. Edmund often amused his family by mixing up his daughters’ names, speaking loudly with his Cantonese-inspired Mandarin, and repeating answers to Wheel of Fortune puzzles as though he had solved them first.
Edmund was a caring father, loving husband, and a kindhearted individual. He took life as it was and never complicated matters. An easy-going person with a fun sense of humor, he lived his life to the fullest before passing away on April 14, 2017. He will be remembered for his bright smile, love for family, and never-ending generosity.
