Doris worked as a waitress for Hullings Restaurant from the age of 14 to 18. She then went on to work for Douty Mill in St. Louis as a secretary until her marriage to Louis in 1950.
Doris married Louis L Meifert, Jr. on March 4th, 1950 in St. Louis Missouri. They were married for 39 years at the time of Louis's death in 1989.
Doris was a proud homemaker and raised their 3 children; Linda, Donald, and Donna.
Following several career moves for Louis, the family settled in Thousand Oaks, California in 1964. Doris and Lou moved to Moorpark in 1981 and has remained her beloved home until her death.
In 1969, Doris went to college to refresh her skills and began a 25 year career at State Farm Insurance working her way up to Underwriting Specialist, often having the opportunity to travel to Hawaii for business. She was very proud of her career and was well loved by all of her co-workers.
After her retirement in 1994, Doris was very involved within her church, Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Thousand Oaks. She volunteered for 10 years in the church office, and also served as a Deacon for several years.
Doris also volunteered in schools, helping with both Boy and Girl Scouts clubs, and went on 3 mission trips to Mexico.
She loved to garden, read and travel. She traveled to Hawaii, Scotland, Greece, the Holy Land, and made numerous trips in the states to see family. She loved taking care of her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She loved all of her “grand-dogs” and never missed an opportunity to pet any of them.
Doris was a proud grandma and loved opening up her home to visiting family or her bible study group. She loved her daily walks around the school near her home, and never turned down a trip ‘down the hill’ to In & Out for a burger or a bowl of ice cream.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Louis L. Meifert, Jr., mother Bessie Benjamin, brother George Maness, sister June Stokes, and In-Laws, Louis L. Meifert, Sr. and Harriet Meifert.
Surviving family members left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses: Linda & Tim Sigler of Bayview, Idaho; Donald & Nancy Meifert of Moorpark, California; Donna & Dan Moore of Piedmont, Oklahoma. Brother Pat & Gail Maness of Grants Pass, Oregon, and several nieces and nephews.
Grandchildren: Tim Jr. & Kristina Sigler of Keenesburg, CO; Mike & Tanya Sigler of Lacey, WA; Drew & Melissa Meifert of Monument, CO; Kyle Moore & Matthew Woodall of Mabelton, GA; Lisa & Charlie Brown of Moorpark, CA; Kelley & Matthew Cavanagh of Omaha, NE; and Dayna & Luke Guinn of Piedmont, OK.
Great Grandchildren: Lexie Sigler & fiance Chandler of Keenesburg, CO; Timmy & Kristina Sigler of Aurora, CO; Jordan & Crystal Sigler of Aurora, CO; Noah Sigler of Keenesburg, CO; Abigail, Jack, and Sarah Meifert of Monument CO; Charlie, Reese, and Evelyn Brown of Moorpark, CA.
Great Great Grandchildren: Marguerite Sigler of Kenneseburg, CO and Corbin Sigler of Aurora, CO.
Her favorite bible verses: The first one she learned: John 3:16, Ephesians 4:12, 4;16 and Isaiah 40:31. all reminders to her of God's promises.
