YAMASAKI, BRADLEY TODD, 59 — Passed away in the hospital on Saturday, January 29, 2022, loved and surrounded by his closest family members. Brad was born on November 10, 1962 in Los Angeles. He was the oldest son of his late father Shoichi N. and mother Len Fong Yamasaki.
A native Angeleno, Brad attended Belmont High School, then went on to complete his education at UCLA where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business/economics. Brad was the first member of his family to attend college; his bright intellect and reliable work ethic served him well in his later professional endeavors. He would celebrate and cheer for Bruin athletic programs well after his time there.
Brad had a successful career in accounting and finance. As a Certified Information Systems Auditor, his early career included working at City National Bank, PriceWaterhouse Coopers and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Brad will be remembered professionally for his ability to build a positive team culture and remain calm under pressure. With his candor and disarming sense of humor, Brad was an effective relational leader in the corporate world, who was skilled in consulting with executive clientele and deploying teams to provide risk/compliance solutions. Later in his career, Brad consulted in IT Risk Management, working with such notable companies as Ernst & Young, Audit Board and Grant Thornton.
While away from the office, Brad was an avid sports and health enthusiast. He played several sports throughout his youth, lettering in varsity football, and was proud to hold his fraternity’s official push-up record for several years. He went to the gym on a weekly basis, played in basketball tournaments, softball teams and often went golfing or fishing to relax. In his social spheres, he will be missed for his genuine warmth, quick wit, and ability to befriend others wherever he went.
Brad met his college sweetheart while at UCLA. As newlyweds, they fell in love with the rolling hills and verdant oaks of the Conejo Valley, and decided to settle there to start a family. Brad was a dedicated father, deeply involved in the lives of his sons from preschool years through adulthood. This led to his involvement in student ministries at church, coaching several sports teams, booster club presidency, choir dad and camp counselorship. He also co-founded a nonprofit private middle school academy (LOMSAA), served on several advisory boards and helped launch a recent entrepreneurial business venture with his wife.
Since his college years, Brad loved the community he found within the Christian faith. He was a devoted follower of Jesus for the rest of his life, rising early to meet privately with God each day. He served as an usher for many years at his home church, Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village. He also served as a founding elder and church planter of Living Oaks Church in Newbury Park. Besides this he also enjoyed financially supporting many different ministries and charities throughout his life.
Brad was disciplined in his study of scripture—by the end of his life, he had read his tattered One Year Bible from cover to cover for 16 consecutive years. One of his spiritual highlights was visiting Israel in 2016 and being baptized in the Jordan River. His irrepressible hope for seeing others in heaven, his authentic joy, and his love for life touched many lives. In the end, he “broke every chain” and fully embodied the sentiment from 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Brad is deeply cherished as a much-beloved husband, father, son, uncle, brother, nephew, cousin, colleague, mentor, neighbor and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, provision and faithful service to his wife Elaine, and his two sons, Troy and Todd Yamasaki.
Brad is also survived by his mother Len Yamasaki; his sister Joni (Chuck) French, and their children Taylor and Justin; his sister Lori Yamasaki and her children Roselyn Mariscal (children Mario, Issac and Alena Hernandez), Robert Yamasaki, Jonathan (Cyndi) Yamasaki, and their son Aiden; mother-in-law Frances Goto; sisters-in-law Bette (Lance) Huey and Nancy Goto; several uncles, aunts, cousins, and in-laws.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village; refreshments following. Arrangements have been made through Calvary Community Church and Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park-Westlake Village.
In lieu of flowers, a charitable contribution may be made to the CHRISTIAN FOUNDATION OF AMERICA—a CA 501(c)3, earmarked for the “Brad Yamasaki Family Memorial Fund” to support the nonprofits, causes, charities and missions he cared about most.
