Barbara “Barb” Gilbert, beloved mother, sister and daughter, passed away far too young at the age of 59 years on February 23, 2019. Barb brought joy and laughter to all those around her. She could make people smile in the most difficult times and brought happiness to those around her with her quick wit, clever puns and eternal spring of optimism. Barb is survived by her two daughters Hailey (Tobie) and Heidi, her mother Isobel and by six siblings: Wally, Jim, Cathy, Tricia, John and Paul.
Barb was born at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, California and grew up in adjacent San Carlos, where she attended school at St. Charles Elementary and the now shuttered San Carlos High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Chico State University and ultimately relocated to Southern California where she was married and had two daughters. Over her career, she enjoyed working for well-known brands and retailers including The Emporium, Macy’s and more recently Skechers and Guitar Center. These positions allowed Barb to channel her endless energy and love of people into a rewarding career.
Everyone who knew Barb will remember her infectious smile and optimism and her willingness to help family and friends in need. Even on the darkest days, Barb would provide a silver lining to those around her. She enjoyed the beautiful Southern California weather, the beach, time outdoors in the California sunshine and spending time with her beloved daughters and family.
Memorial donations in memory of Barb may be made to The American Heart Association, an organization dedicated to helping us ensure loving, funny, beautiful people like Barb remain with us as long as possible. www.heart.org/donate
