“Bob” was born Dec. 26, 1939 in Elyria to parents Arthur and Helen Hancock. A 1957 graduate of Elyria High School, he was active in orchestrating their 60th Class Reunion. Bob’s greatest accomplishment in life was marrying his sweetheart Janet Marie Tapper in 1962. From this union he was blessed with 3 loving children, 5 grandchildren, and 1 great granddaughter. His support of his family was his passion, attending every sporting event, concert, church function that he possibly could. If he could be there he WAS. He loved adventuring with his grandkids and was quite smitten with all of them.
Bob spent much of his entire life in service. He is a U.S. Army veteran and was a Barber for over 45 years. He was a 30 plus year member of the Lorain Lions Club, served on the Clearview Board of Education for over 28 years and was a founding member of Clearview Educational Endowment Fund which he helped establish in 1988. Bob advocated for the youth in the community continuously and was a member of the “Chain Gang” for the Clearview football games for years.
He had a mowing/landscaping business he created “Nature’s Way”. His backyard was filled with flowers, a waterfall pond and beautiful trail of landscaping. Bob also managed a Bar Catering Business for years. He was a loyal and proud member of the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church where he and his wife Janet and family attended for well over 45 years.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Janet (nee Tapper); his children, Jill M Serrano and Michael (Sheri) Hancock; his grandchildren, Sean (Andrenae), Brianna, Mitchell, Carter and Roslyn; his great granddaughter Jaylin Grizzell; his loving sister, Mary Lou (Alan) Peterson and sisters -in-law, Carol & Dan Solak and Darlene & Tony Dore; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and his four-legged love, Mazie. Bob was also blessed with Nancy and Savannah who became like family the last 5 months, looking out for Bob and Jan, and still are.
Bob was preceded in death by his daughter Julie L Hancock (1999), sister Karen (Alan) Wehman (Sept. 2024), brother-in-law James (Cindy) Tapper, sister-in-law Bonnie (Ron) Montagnese and his parents Arthur and Helen Hancock and bonus-parents Gus and Irene Tapper.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday November 23, 2024, from 2PM to 5PM with a Tribute/Memorial service from 3pm-3:30PM officiated by Rev. Adam Davis at The VFW Post 1662, 165 Cleveland Street, Amherst, Ohio 44001.
In lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Clearview Educational Foundation, 4700 Broadway, Lorain, Ohio 44052 or to Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, payable to Camp Ideas, 3015 Meister Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
Private inurnment services will be held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park where Bob will be laid to rest in their Veteran Section.
