He was born in Church Point, LA., and has lived in Westlake since 1967. He was an E4 US Army Veteran where he served during the Vietnam War Era earning his good conduct medal and expert rifle badge. Bob worked as a top Operator at Vista, retiring after 30 years of service. After retirement he opened and managed Bob's Rental Properties Inc. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and son. Bob was a past member of the American Legion Post in Westlake. He was a faithful believer of the Catholic faith, he loved cutting up and making everyone laugh because he was the joker of the bunch. He loved Cajun French music and having a good time while being surrounded by the ones he loved. He enjoyed watching the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Florence” Flo” Matte of Westlake; two sons, Michael Wayne Matte and wife Cynthia of Longville and Lane Matte and wife Samantha of Sulphur; one daughter Tiffany Demarets and husband Pete of Westlake; two brothers, Paul Keith Matte and wife Donna of Lafayette and David Matte of Church Point; five sisters, Bernadine LeJeune of Church Point, Cheryl Duplechin and husband Riley of Rayne, Darlene Menard and husband Mike of Church Point, Tina Leger and husband Myron of Rayne, Robin Miller and husband Bernard of Church Point; six grandchildren Kaitlyn Davis, Tylar, Tori and Chloe Matte, Dylan and Tanner Demarets, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Roland Matte, Hazel Touchet Parsons; his sister Joycelyn Matte and brother Ronald Matte.
Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake from 2:00-9:00pm Wednesday, September 3, 2014 with a rosary at 6:30pm and a life celebration/sharing of Bob’s life after the rosary. Visitation will continue Thursday at 8:00 a.m. until service.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00am Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Saint John Bosco Catholic Church in Westlake, Celebrant will be Father Michael Barras. Entombment will follow at Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lung Cancer Foundation of America.
