I knew Sarah from UBC.   I am a Sigma Chi and Sarah was the sweetheart of Sigma Chi when I joined in 1993.   She really was a textbook sweetheart of a young woman.   Sarah radiated in beauty and kindness.     

It is profoundly sad Sarah isn't here anymore.  

I think for anyone who ever ran into Sarah, the moment just left you feeling happier.   I'm glad I knew her, if only for a brief moment in time.   A genuine and classy woman with a beaming smile for everyone.   

All honor to her name.  



Message to Sarah

Twinkle in your eye......

This is the first thing I noticed when I met you soon after my appointment as Director General of the Litigation Management and Resolution Branch in September 2004. 

You had been introduced to me as someone who was both very competent and nice which made me want to meet you as soon as possible. When I did, I liked your smile, engaging personality and kind nature. But above all, I noticed the twinkle in your eye when you looked at someone. 

Soon afterwards we began working together on a project that lasted a little over three years. While others were involved, none played as big a role as you did. During that time, you never ceased to impress me. You displayed the best qualities an employee could offer. But it is your human qualities that I remember and appreciate the most today. Yes, you wrote well and were reliable, constructive, diligent and timely. But you were also always pleasant, collegial, supportive, respectful and calm. Your intelligence and interpersonal skills allowed you to "brief up" and to answer questions convincingly. Undoubtedly, without you our project would not have been as successful as you remained hopeful despite ongoing adversity and, in so doing, gave me faith that we would pull this project off in the end. 

Later, our paths parted ways as you moved to Vancouver. Yet, I always looked forward to saying "hello" every time I went to the Vancouver office where you worked. I fondly remember our lunch in 2013 and our last encounter at my Vancouver retirement party later that Fall. Since then, I often thought of and inquired about you as I was concerned, but was always hopeful that your health would improve. Sadly, destiny decided otherwise. 

Like everyone else whose paths you crossed during your life, I consider your passing to be a great injustice. Someone who offered so much good, who displayed so many wonderful human qualities and who wanted nothing more than to live happily with Patrick and her two young sons deserved to have a very long life....and you will. True, your physical presence is no more, but when looking at the stars I see that twinkle again and smile......as I know that you are nearby, that you are there for your family and that you will be living with and through them to the end of time...

To Patrick, your sons and all family members, I offer my deepest sympathies.

Dear Patrick, 
I just learned today of Sarah's passing. I'm so saddened to hear of this. Sarah and I were colleagues for a brief time at LMRB (INAC) and our children are about the same ages. Sarah was such a lovely human. Love to you and your sons.

I was so honoured when Sarah referenced me as "Auntie Jen" to Benjamin and James. I'll ALWAYS be an Auntie to your boys and a friend you can count on.

Sarah loved all of you so deeply and was so grateful for everything you did. No matter what she went through, the love and support you gave to her enabled her to be happy, positive and able to overcome so much. 

That same and very special love is what will give you the strength to overcome, the ability to be positive and the path to happiness. That is what Sarah wants most of all.
