August 29, 1925 - August 4, 2021
Mary Frances Orr (Fetherstonhaugh) was born in Willowdale, Ontario to Alice
Stella Queen and James Fetherstonhaugh. Predeceased by her loving husband
of 58 years Thomas Frederick (Bill) Orr, brother Richard and sister Doreen.
Survived by her two sons, Thomas (Lynda) and Richard (Brenda), six
grandchildren, Jillian (Mike), George (Sarah), Toby, Geoffrey (Katharine), Ryan
(Cynthia), and Malia (Tyler), and nine great-grandchildren, Taylor, Courtney,
Madeleine, Alexandra, Annabelle, Cole, Tiffany, Russell, and Emilee.
Mary grew up in Victoria and met her husband Bill while working at the Victoria
Airport. She moved to Vancouver where Bill was from and it was there where
her two sons were born. She spent much of her life in Vancouver, moving to
West Vancouver in her later years and spending winters in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Mary and Bill were avid boaters and members of RVYC and spent many
summers exploring the coast of B.C. They were always happy to share their boat
or apartment in Hawaii with family and friends and were great entertainers. They
were also extremely generous, donating to countless charities, and Mary went
on to establish the Thomas Frederick (Bill) Orr Memorial Scholarship at the
University of Victoria Faculty of Business.
Mary was the true matriarch of her family. Always warm, witty, and welcoming.
Whether you had a personal problem, needed help with a recipe, or just wanted
the honest truth, Mary was always there to offer empathy and support. Her sage
knowledge and experience guided many members of her family and in particular
her husband Bill. Her love, affection, and generosity will be truly missed.
The family would like to thank Cristy Castillo, Mary's caregiver, for all the love,
care, and attention given to Mary over the years.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in her honour could be made to
the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice.
