The light is out and the love of our lives is sailing in uncharted waters, skiing on new slopes and soaring high in the sky. Honoured to live with a remarkable man thinking of good times and challenges are his wife of 47 years, Helga, together with his two sons and their families: Andy with Sharon and sons Liam, Tom and Eric and Tony with Andrea, their children, Max and Benita. Extended family in Germany and New York share our sorrow.
He grew up in a peaceful small town south of Munich, with his artist parents Otto and Marianne Peiffer and his younger sister Suzanne, enjoying his friends and sailing at the local yacht club. After the war he finished his high school diploma and decided to leave war-torn Germany to seek opportunities in Canada. He found his interest in the Canadian Aviation industry, married his beloved first wife Benita, who died at an important time in their lives leaving him two small children. His love of skiing and a winter vacation in Germany led to a life-long union with Helga, who supported Kurt’s young family and his career. They grew together to create a wonderful life full of adventures, new homes and friends.
His unwavering loyalty, integrity, high principles, and intelligence were valued by his family and everyone along his career path. And not least of all his great sense of humour! He was a guiding light for us all.
" A man should sire a son, build a house, plant a tree and write a book" says the famous quote. Kurt achieved it all, with the exception of the last one chapter. He fought cancer valiantly for the past four years and passed peacefully on a sunny morning June 6, 2014 at 86 years of age. Good-bye, Kurt!
A small service of honour will be held on Saturday June 21, 2014, at 11:00am, Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Drive, West Vancouver, B.C.
A celebration of life to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Lionsgate Hospital Foundation.
