July 21, 1947 – March 3, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our beloved father, husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.
Gerald was born in Montevideo, Uruguay but grew up mainly in Chile and Argentina. After completing his secondary studies, he came to Canada in Sep. 1967.
First he worked as a banker in Toronto and in 1979, he and his wife Elisabeth moved to Vancouver, BC. Here on the North Shore a daughter was born in 1983 and a son in 1985.
He was a very loving and devoted father to them.
His 25 years with the Royal Bank of Canada came to an abrupt end in 2001 when Gerald was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. For 10 years, he fought vigorously against this incurable cancer.
We shall always admire and respect him for his courage. He will be missed enormously.
Gerald is survived by his daughter Melissa, his son Andrew, their mother Elisabeth, sisters Sylvia (Bruce) and Patricia (Bob), many nieces, nephews and friends around the globe.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the West Vancouver United Church at 2062 Esquimalt Ave. in West Vancouver, BC.
The family is very grateful to Dr. Kevin W. Song for his special care of Gerald.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vancouver General Hospital Foundation, in favour of the Leukemia/BMT Program.
