No more flowers to photograph or sunsets to regale.
Ed died peacefully on Feb 29th at the North Shore Hospice after a determined fight against intestinal illness and is survived by Patricia, his wife of 59 years, daughter Paula (Rob), son John (Angela), son Dave (Amanda), son Gary, daughter Terri, daughters-in-law Melanie and Barb, and 10 grandchildren.
Ed was born on October 5, 1930, in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, UK, and was the middle of three boys born to Hilda and Arthur. At 15, he left school and started an apprenticeship with Geo. W. King Ltd that was interrupted by British Army National Service in Gibraltar. Ed jumped at the opportunity in 1954 to immigrate to Canada, and later met the love of his life, Patricia, who also had recently arrived from England.
Ed ran a successful material’s handling firm, Kingsway Engineering, but still found time to volunteer, coach youth soccer and lacrosse in West Vancouver, and take numerous trips including an around the world adventure in 2008. He and Pat enjoyed retirement on the Sunshine Coast, or Paradise, where they were regulars at the Garden Bay Pub.
There will be no service, by Ed’s request, but donations may be made to the North Shore Hospice Society. Thank you to the incredible Hospice staff who kept Ed comfortable in his last days.
