Dorothy passed away in Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, on November 4th, 3 p.m. at the age of 87. She is survived by her children, Linda McLellan, Cathy Macphail, Jean Broom, Ian Macphail, 16 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren and sisters: Kathlene Thompson and Elaine Moonen. Dorothy was predeceased by her devoted husband William Norman Macphail in 1982. Dorothy was loved and admired by her family and friends for her caring and understanding nature. She was a true friend; fair, generous, compassionate and loyal. These characteristics were instilled by two hard working and loving parents, Henry and Edna Boon, in Delia, Alberta, where she was born and raised. As a loving wife and Mother, Dorothy provided quiet comfort and tireless support and commitment to her husband and four grateful children. She will be missed and thought of often. Dorothy held a deep appreciation of nature; she stopped to notice snowdrops in spring, the smell of poplars in summer, the golden leaves of fall, the soft hush of winter snow. Her flower garden was her place of rejuvenation. She grew beautiful roses. Most of all she enjoyed sharing experiences with her grandchildren, including teaching many of them how to knit. She enjoyed visiting with other seniors in need of a cheerful smile, a kind word, or chocolates. An honored volunteer of the North Vancouver Community Arts Counsel, and a faithful St. David's Wedding Hostess, Dorothy took up the cross in her own quiet way, seeing great promise in the futures of others and making friends all along the way on four continents. Forever in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. David's United Church, 1525 Taylor Way West Vancouver, Saturday December 1st, 2pm.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
