Catherine Virginia Moir

Cathy passed away peacefully on February 16, 2014. Life started for her in Vancouver, on January 20, 1926, as the ninth child of Frank and Mary LaBelle. She fondly remembered her early years with her parents, siblings and large extended family. The majority of her adult life was spent in Lynn Valley raising 3 children and then cheerfully doting on 4 grandchildren. Family was always a key part of Cathy’s life. Everyone knew her to have a heart of gold and to always be thinking of others. She would literally give you the shirt off her back and you were guaranteed to leave her home with a basket of food. Her generosity extended beyond family, with helping any people facing hardship and in need. Cathy was also passionate about nature and the well being of the environment. She donated regularly to causes supporting the betterment of the environment, animals and the welfare of humans.

Although Cathy will be missed by her family, she is now in the Lord’s hands where she longed to be. Predeceased by her son Derek, and 8 of her siblings (Bessie, Jean, Molly, Nellie, Ina, Isabelle, Frankie and Russell). Survived by her son David (wife Nancy and their children Kimberley and Johnathon), daughter Sandy (husband Derek Luty and their children Jay and Conor), sister Mona, sister-in-law Vera, and many nieces and nephews including Ginny (Bill) Walker. No service or flowers at Cathy’s request. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
