With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Yvonne Johnson-Haynes, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on July 30, 2023. She passed away peacefully in Draper, Utah, due to natural causes, in her 71st year.
She was born on March 14, 1952, in Pasco, Washington, to the late Earl and Arlene Johnson. Yvonne graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah, in 1970. She received her BA in Education from Utah State University in 1976.
She married the late Charles Haynes in 1976, who was the love of her life. She was predeceased by her husband in 2001. They raised a beautiful family together in West Jordan before relocating to West Valley years later. She would always say that raising her loving family was her greatest accomplishment in this life.
Yvonne is survived by her four children and their spouses: Katie and Cascade Wilson, of Logan; Michael and Amy Haynes, of American Fork; Brett and Hunter Haynes, of West Jordan; and Kevin & Kenzie Haynes, of Spanish Fork; and survived by her 15 grandchildren: Priscilla, Marisa, Anthony, Elijah, Kaedyn, Levi, Noah, Charlie-Anne, Hayden, Taylee, Mikayla, Marvel, Aiden, Bellamy, Avery Rae; plus one great-grandchild: Bentley Jade.
Also loving survived by her siblings and their spouses: Carol Steck, of St. George; Darla and Lavar Frandsen, of West Jordan; Diane and Mark Ford, of West Jordan; Rex and Kelly Johnson, of Logan; and Annette and Terry Krug, of Lindon; and her many nephews and nieces. All of whom she loved and cared for deeply.
Yvonne loved to give and receive gifts. Her love language was definitely giving gifts. You could always count on a gift and/or card for every holiday, birthday, or special occasion from Grandma Haynes. She also shared her love for making delicious recipes, which everyone would look forward to at our traditional family gatherings.
For over 30 years Yvonne worked for the Granite School District, with most of those years teaching at Brockbank Jr. High in Magna. It suited her passion for educating young minds and getting them to be critical thinkers in life. When we would ask her why did she become a teacher because they don’t make a lot of money? She would always reply that she "didn’t do it for the money, but because (she) loved teaching and sharing her passion for knowledge.”
Please join us in celebrating Yvonne’s beautiful life on Saturday, August 12, 2023. Memorial services will start at 12 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 12146 S. Anthem Park Blvd, Herriman, UT 84096. Graveside services will be held afterward at the cemetery of Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 W 4100 S, West Valley City, UT 84120.
