Throughout his married life he spent several weekends helping with Darlene’s family farm. Bill filled a lot of his time hunting and shooting with his family. They reloaded shot gun shells and entered competitions in trap and skeet shooting. At one time he shot 175 times without missing his target. He won a 30-06 rifle and several turkeys. Bill always had a boat and enjoyed taking his family boating, fishing and water skiing at Flaming Gorge and other lakes in the area. Bill water skied until he was 69, and especially loved the rough water. Bill and Darlene loved taking western and square-dancing classes where they, along with a group of their friends, were well known as the “Wild Bunch”. Another hobby Bill and Darlene enjoyed together was painting ceramics that were created by Larry Nak. They painted several for themselves along with several that were given to family and friends.
Bill and Darlene loved to travel. They enjoyed Hawaii for their 25th wedding anniversary and then again on their 50th wedding anniversary where they renewed their wedding vows with 25 family members and friends sharing the experience. They traveled the United States on their Honda Goldwing touring motorbike, by themselves or with various friends. They also traveled to Europe spending time with extended family in Germany, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, France, and England. They traveled several times to Mexico and took a cruise to Jamaica. Another trip was taken by car across the United States to Virginia Beach, Virginia, spending 3 ½ weeks sightseeing and visiting family. Bill’s favorite adventure was when they spent 2 ½ months in Alaska traveling by motorhome at which time he caught numerous halibuts and salmon with the highlight being a 50-pound king salmon and a 98-pound halibut.
