I remember always going to grandpas house every time i could get out of school long enough to get up there. The best of my memories include grandpa fishing or camping. I remember one time we went to cold springs and we were fishing as always, and i was catching the most fish, so grandpa got mad and went to the other side of the lake and told me to stay there and fish. I love you grandpa and i will miss you forever

Thinking of grandpa reminds me of the time spent with him on the mountain; fishing in the early morning, driving around in his truck looking for elk or sitting in his trailer at night playing 31. I remember when I was really young Grandpa would pull out his bottom teeth, that always freaked me out. I have many fond memories of Him and I will miss Him dearly. I love you Grandpa and I will see you again someday.

Well this was 33+ years ago...but we all know that fixing anything mechanical wasn't Verl's favorite thing, and that old lawn mower broke and my little brother was always asking Verl for whatever he had that didn't work so he gave him that old broken lawn mower and bought him a new one. A couple of days later Verl was driving by the house and stopped right in the middle of the road, got out of his truck and walked over to my brother who was mowing our lawn with that old mower, he just stood there for a minute until Curt turned it off and said Verl look all I had to do was replace a couple screws and she runs great.....I couldn't quite make out the words Verl said as he walked back to his truck but you could tell he wasn't very happy he just bought a new mower...Boyd and I still laugh about that and it was just as hard typing it as it would have been telling it. Grandpa, I will miss you terribly, everyone will miss you terribly. I really wish I could've spent more time with you and grandma. One of the kindest men I've known and loved everyone. You taught me how to fish and the biggest memories I have with you are in the mountains. Everytime I camp or fish I will always think of you, and of course grandma too. The greatest grandpa ever! I miss you and Love you so much.

I remember when we would go to great grandma and grandpas house to swim. That is where I learned to go down the slide on my 
belly... face first! Grandpa would watch and laugh. I remember 
that I couldn't REALLY swim yet, but I would throw the diving sticks
in the pool and beg my dad to go get them for me, after awhile grandpa would tell my dad, "It looks like you're going in." And them my dad would dive in and chase me and Jordan around like a shark.

I will never forget the day that we were taking John home from the hospital, and the first thing
that Roy did was drive to Grandma and Grandpa Holdaways so that we wouldn't be late for
Thanksgiving dinner.
So, John and I picked this poem for him...


Grandpa Holdaway kept a garden.
A garden of the heart;
He planted all the good things,
That gave our lives their start.
He turned us to the sunshine,

Our deepest sympathay for Bonnie and your families for your loss of Verl.  He was friend of ours and brother of our best friend Gary. The times we spent deer hunting together, visiting with each other are fond memories. May he rest in peace and the love of the LORD.

Verl said to me that the only music he liked was western music.  He enjoyed listening to Jim Reeves.  Verl was a leader.  He was respected by his family as well as others. Our deepest sympathies and condolances go out to your family. I will never forget the many years our families vacationed together, played together and simply enjoyed one another's company. I specifically remember the late nights of board games that we would have to leave unfinished only to return the next day to finish a hard-fought game of Risk or Monopoly. Also the time we spent playing kick-the-can or hide n' seek late into the night while our parents were out having fun and they thought we were in bed, then scurrying through the gate in the fence that connected the backyards of our homes to jump in bed as our parents drove up the street. Verl wasn't fooled but allowed all of our antics to make these times special and fun. Verl's special 55+ year friendship with my parents, moving side-by-side from Cedar City, Beaver, Kearns and then building their homes together in West Valley City was very much appreciated and set a standard for the importance of making friends part of family. I will miss seeing him at ballgames, his smile and easy-going personality. What a wonderful neighbor and friend he was to me growing up. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very difficult time.

Dear Holdaway Family
I was over come with a flood of memories when I saw Verls name listed in the paper, Playing baskettball after Scouts until midnight,Deer and Elk hunts,camping above Fish Lake at Frying Pan Camp grounds are just a few.
Verl was a great example for me to follow growing up,Thank You for sharing him.
I am sorry that I will not be able to be there to help celebrate his life with you, it would be nice to see all of you.

I have so many great memories that I will always hold close to my heart. A few that stand out are competing in the game 31, who was going to catch the first fish and who was going to have the most counter space in the bathroom downstairs. Thank you for all that you did for Layne and I and for what a great example you provided for us. We love you and miss you.

I remember the many times all the neighbor kids would go swimming at their house. He was a kind hearted man and will be remembered for his good deeds.

Grandpa even though I have been away from the family for awhile I still have all the memories of the good times we have had. I will always live by those memories and I appreciate all that you taught me. Love and miss you greatly. Love always Kelley

My thoughts and prayers go out to the best neighbors that a kid could have growing up.  Verl was like a second father to me growing up as I was over to the house on more than just a few occasions.  I will always remember the street football games that we would have and Verl would be the quarterback  for the teams.  He would give a route like go to the parked car and break left.  Verl will be deeply missed and the world and the neighborhood was a better place while he was here.  We will miss you!  Boyd and Julie may I offer my sincerest condolences to you. It is hard to see the father of your best friend pass on.  I was so grateful that I the opportunity to sit down with your father just a couple of weeks ago and visit with him for a little while.  Your father was truly a great man.
