Dorine was born April 6, 1940, in Hiawatha, Utah, to Ralph Bracken and Norma Johanna Stokes; she was raised in a loving home by devoted parents and had cherished moments. She fondly shared her memories with her family, which we enjoyed hearing throughout the years.
At age four, Dorine’s family moved to Cleveland, Utah, near Grandma Stokes’ orchard. Dorine, an adventurous child, was always up for climbing the apple tree to hang upside down from the branches; yet she also loved to play with her dolls, and she continued to treasure dolls collected throughout her life.
At age twelve, Dorine’s family moved to Roosevelt Avenue, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended Emerson Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High, and graduated from East High School.
Dorine met her sweetheart, Dean Ralph, while working at the Blue Cottage ice-cream parlor in Salt Lake City, Utah. After Dorine’s persuasion, Dean asked her to a St. Patrick’s Day dance. Dean and Dorine were married for time and eternity on August 29, 1960, in the Salt Lake Temple; they spent the next 62 years loving each other with all their hearts. They built a loving home, provided for their family, and served faithfully.
Dorine’s kind heart led her to freely share her time and talents; her priority was being a mother and grandmother, bringing her never-ending joy. She served as her ward compassionate service leader for twenty-five years. Dorine tenderly cared for Dean’s mother, Bessie, and then her own mother, through their last months of life. Dorine’s homemade bread and chocolate chip cookies, made with love and shared in kindness, were in high demand among family and friends. Dorine had a firm testimony of Jesus Christ. She believed in the power of prayer, and she taught her children through example, even in her last days of life.
Mom’s last seventeen months were surrounded by her devoted children; we are grateful for the opportunity to be of service to Mom while her health declined. Dorine liked to play Scrabble, watch football and Perry Mason, do butterfly sticker-books, and looked forward to the Pioneer Day parade floats. She is dearly missed by all.
Dorine is preceded in death by her eternal companion, Dean Ralph, son Glynn Ralph, parents Ralph and Norma Bracken, sisters Belva Wayman and Lana Siple, sister-in-law Mary Jane Bracken. She is survived by her loving children; Mark Ralph (Melene), Norma Ralph, Allison Haskell (Blaine), Arlene Herrick (Troy), and Daniel Ralph, daughter-in-law Kenlynne Ralph, sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren (with one on the way), three step great-grandchildren, brother LaVell Bracken, brothers-in-law Clair (Joan) Ralph, and Wally Siple.
