1951-2019
Susan ‘Sue’ Lorraine Leonard Peters, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on June 13, 2019, at the age of 67 after a courageous battle with colon cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Sue was born in Salt Lake City Utah, to Ruth Peterson Leonard and Gordon A. Leonard on October 9, 1951. Her parents preceded her in death, as did her siblings: Gordon Dennis Leonard, Michael ‘Jon’ Leonard, Kathryn ‘Kay’ Gust, Kimball ‘Kim’ A. Leonard, and Steven Charles Leonard.
Sue married her soulmate Alan Peters on May 20, 1994. In addition to her loving husband, Sue is survived by her children Kathryn ‘Kate’ Marie Jenkins, Cory (Beth) Peters and Kami Peters Wingster. She is also survived by her six grandchildren (T.J., Charis, Cody, Kenan, Savannah, Karis), one great-grand baby and her companion pup Lucy.
Together with Alan, Sue loved camping, fishing, and hunting. She was a successful gardener and loved sharing the bounty of her garden with family, friends and neighbors; Sue enjoyed quilting, and trips to Wendover. Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite holidays - the Christmas tree was often put up even before the Thanksgiving dishes were put away! Sue was a fantastic cook and we will all miss her clam dip for Christmas Eve and Thanksgiving, and everyone loved her clam chowder, noodles, turkey dressing, fudge, divinity, and a host of other dishes.
Sue treasured her family and also loved animals. She shared a love of horses with her dad - they won many ribbons and awards for their riding. Horses continued to hold a special place in her heart throughout her life and she instilled that love in the hearts of her children and grandchildren. When Kate was young, Sue allowed her to raise any animal that could be imagined including goats, chickens, bunnies, hamsters, and ferrets to name a few. Sue had a real way with children; teenagers relied on her to keep their secrets and they trusted her advice. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, courage, and love.
