Richard (Dick) Salt was born December 29, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Emma Kunz Salt and William Frances (Frank) Salt. Dick attended West High School where he excelled in football, basketball, track and field. He also was a prize amateur boxer and had a chance to turn professional but decided instead to focus on his growing family. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing as well as duck and deer hunting. Dick loved his country and served during World War II in the Merchant Marines. After serving his country, Dick married his sweetheart, Donna Lang, on December 18, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple. During his working career as a machinist for Kennecott Copper, Dick received many awards for his craftsmanship. He was also a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, volunteering his time in many callings. He especially loved serving in the Salt Lake Temple for 10 years with his dear wife.
Dick and Donna were blessed with five children — Betty (Wally) Singleton, Bob (Auzeni) Salt, Dixie (Scott) Blackburn, Roger (Mindy) Salt, Randy (Cindy) Salt. Dick's posterity includes 16 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Lang Salt; his parents, Frank and Emma Salt; brother, Bill Salt; sisters, Dorothy Worthen and Margaret Campbell; son-in-law, Scott Blackburn; and his grandson, Jason Singleton.
Funeral services will be April 22, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Erda Stake Center, 1037 West Erda Way. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery following the funeral service
