Rex excelled in athletics at Juab High School and West High School. His love of sports continued throughout his life. As an avid fisherman and hunter he could catch fish when no one else could get a bite and always knew where he could find the elusive buck.
After serving in the Army he married Margaret McPherson of Nephi on Aug. 26, 1950. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Rex began his career with the Utah Highway Patrol in Aug. 1955. Rex’s initial assignment was in Eureka where he served for a year then transferred to Nephi. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1969, in 1974 to Lieutenant and transferred to UHP Headquarters in Salt Lake City, where he became Captain in 1977 until retirement in 1984. Rex was well respected by both the community he served and those he supervised. He was known as a man who was firm but also compassionate and fair to all.
After Retirement from the UHP, Rex served for 15 years as the Sergeant of Arms for the Utah State Senate.
Rex is survived by his beloved wife and eternal companion, Margaret, children Deborah (Richard) Anderson, Mt. Pleasant, UT, Glen (Mary) Hill, Grand Prairie, TX, and Gayle (Jerry) Romero, Park City, UT, 11 grandchildren, Kim Hickam, Kourtney Packer, Ben Anderson, Justin Anderson, Cathe Becker, Christy Rollins, Rex Hill, Cherie Douglass, Ashley Dayley, Bree Simek, Nick Romero, and 17 great grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, step-father Glenn Bush, Sister Lorrine DeJong, Brother, Calvin, half-brother Val Bush, half-sisters Betty, Norma and step-brother Ben Bush.
Viewing will be held at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT Thursday, September 5, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and 1 hour prior to services. Services will begin at 11 am, Friday, September 6, 2013 at 3045 Bernina Dr. Taylorsville UT. Interment will be at Valley View Memorial Park.
