Orlinda Vigil, 91, was born January 23, 1930 in El Prado, New Mexico to Juan Valdez and Manuelita Atencio Valdez. She graduated from Espanola High School. She would later meet and marry Robert Vigil on September 05, 1949 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde, New Mexico.
Orlinda lived a long beautiful life and was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.
She was a devoted wife and mother to her 5 children. She was a Grandmother of 10, Michelle, Melanie, Teresa, Jennifer, Gabe, Angie, Lisa, Jamie, Meagan, and Josh. She also was a great grandmother of 15, and great-great grandmother of 2 with two more expected next year.
She always woke up early to prepare our dad’s breakfast, and lunch before he left to work and always had dinner ready for us with the house looking immaculate. It was always a great bonus when we came home and the house smelled to fresh made tortillas, or fresh home-made bread, or her award winning green chili, which was always the favorite at any gathering.
Orlinda kept herself busy with her hobbies and many activities. Her love of sewing blessed the lives of her children and grandchildren as she spent hours making heavy quilts to keep us warm during the winter nights, as well as clothing.
Her other hobby included crocheting. Whether it was doilies, baby blankets for her grandchildren and other family members or knick knacks for the house, she always did it with love.
Also, the many trips that were taken to Wendover were always such fun and filled with memories for her. Playing the penny slot machines with Robert for hours and playing bingo was definitely a favorite of theirs.
She also looked forward to the annual family camping trips to the Uintas. With her excitement for these campouts, she would start preparing at least two weeks prior, to ensure that she had packed everything and more, that was going to be needed.
Also, her love of playing Rummy. You would think that there was millions at stake when it came to her turn…. She knew and played the game well with anyone that wanted to play and it didn’t really matter what time of day it was.
In closing, Orlinda was a fan, not just a fan, but the number one fan of the Utah Jazz, with #45 being her favorite player. She knew all the players, she knew their schedule, their injuries, their wins and losses and was always looking forward to their games.
She simply had a great time in everything that she did, and especially if it was with her family.
We would like to thank all of her medical team members that have taken such good care of our mother over the years. She knew that she was getting the best care that one could wish for and for this we are eternally grateful.
