

Merle Alvey Hansen, age 92, passed away April 8, 2025 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born March 24, 1933 in Escalante, Utah. Merle enjoyed growing up on a farm in a small town. She moved to Salt Lake City in 1951. Salt Lake is where she met the love of her life, Venice J. Hansen, they married on January 3, 1953. She worked at JC Penny for 40 years, where she met and made many life-long friends.
Merle’s greatest love in life was her family. She loved spending time with us, camping, traveling, or snowmobiling. In her free time if she wasn’t in her garden you could find her in her sewing room. Merle could sew anything and was always doing alterations for people she knew, and even for those she didn’t know.
Merle is survived by her son Steve (Shauna) Hansen; daughter, Susan (Bruce) Bentley; grandchildren, Stephanie (Roger) Smith; Felissia Ludwig; Clinton (Amanda) Bentley; great-grandchildren, Austin Lewis; Natalie Siddoway; R.J. Smith; Hunter Ludwig; Aspen Bentley; Mason Smith; Ashton Bentley; Brent Bentley; sisters, Arta Beth Pollock, Geneal Fraizer, sister-in-law Claudia Alvey
Preceded in death by husband, Venice J. Hansen, daughter, Pat Stireman, grandson, Josh Ludwig, father, Jennings Alvey, mother, Ila Davis Alvey, sisters, Ilene Coffman, Thelma Smith, brother, Boyd Alvey, brother-in-laws, Earl Coffman, Dannie Pollock, Lee Smith, Blair Fraizer, sister-in-laws, Lovina Shepherd and Lorraine Berthelson.
A Viewing to honor Merle will take place on Friday, April 18th from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3274 S Hillsdale Dr, West Valley City, Utah. A second Viewing will take place on Saturday, April 19th from 10:00 AM-10:45 AM at the same location, followed by a Funeral Service beginning at 11:00. Interment at Valley View Memorial Park ~ Alpine Garden.
