Our sweet wife, mother and grandmother, Marlene Prince Layton Pierce passed away on Wednesday, 21 November 2018, in Draper, Utah, at the age of 83.
She was born on 17 July 1935 in St. George, Utah, to William Harvey and Lida Cox Prince. She was loved by her five older brothers. She graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Lawrence M. Layton in the Salt Lake Temple on 24 March 1954. She worked with her brother in the family block business in Houston, Texas. She also enjoyed working at Mormon Handicraft in Salt Lake City. Marlene was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She served many people in her callings and made many meals to bless the lives of others. Lawrence and Marlene served as ordinance workers in the Salt Lake Temple. Lawrence passed away in 1994.
Her greatest joy was doing family history work and serving in the temple. In 1999, she was called to serve as the historian for the construction of the Nauvoo, Illinois Temple, where she met Hugh Pierce. They were married in the St. Louis Missouri Temple on 27 May 2000. They served as construction missionaries, ordinance workers and in the presidency and assistant matron in the Nauvoo Temple. They were then called for 3½ years as construction missionaries for the Ogden, Utah Temple renovation. After their mission they returned to Nauvoo, a city that she dearly loved.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Hugh Pierce, and children, LaMar (Lynnette) Layton, Darrell (Valerie) Layton, Brian (Rangimaria) Layton, Trinda (Jody) Adams, Thalene (Steve) Fairbanks, Layne (Marlisa) Layton, Sammy Pierce, Jay Pierce; 30 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by parents; husband, Lawrence M. Layton; Children, Valene Layton, Phyllis Porter, Clifford Porter, Neil Porter.
Interment in the Valley View Memorial Park Chestnut Garden.
