Marilyn Newsome Lee

Marilyn Newsome Lee. Our sweet Mother, Wife, Grandmother, Aunt, Sister and Friend passed away, at home, the evening of November 5, 2018 with her entire family, several grandchildren and even her youngest great granddaughter present.

She was born June 26, 1933 to John Lorenzo and Emily Madsen Newsome, third child of six children. She was sealed in marriage to our Father, Noel H. Lee in the Salt Lake Temple, September 15, 1954. They celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary this year. They are a great example of love, service and support for our entire family and those they come in contact with and have taught us to do the same.

Mom is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was very active and worked hard to fulfill every calling she was asked to serve. She served in many callings, from Young Women, Relief Society and Primary. Before Do-It-Yourself was a catch phrase, Mom was just that. She won awards for handwriting and hand sewn embroidery at the Utah State Fair and other events. She loved to sew, create hand-made gifts and presents, which we all have received from her and cherish. Mom loved her family and everyone who entered our home. She loved to garden and watch her flowers and vegetables grow.

Mom was a stay-at-home mom and was very involved in all our lives and various activities. As we got older and into school, Mom began working full time at Beehive Clothing where she worked for a number of years and made many good friends there. She later retired from Beehive Clothing but continued working at Glendale Elementary School as a literacy specialist working with kids one-on-one, with their reading and writing.

Mom continued to sew and work on Christmas projects up until a couple of days prior to her passing away. A needle or embroidery hook in Mom’s hands were as natural as it was to breathe. Family and friends are recipients of her talents.

Preceding Mom in death are her parents, John Lorenzo and Emily Madsen Newsome, brothers John Dale, Ersal Neal, Wayne Newell and her sister Janice Colleen. She is survived by her brother Arvin Eugene (Klementine), husband, Noel H. Lee, six children: Darell (Noel) Lee, Cindy (Lynn) Peterson, Debbie (Mark) Jensen, Lorraine (Mark) Jolley, Martin (Michele) Lee and Randy (Lourdes) Lee. 33 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren.

We are grateful for the kind care that nurses and doctors, at the IHC facility, showed to our Mother and family. The Intermountain Medical hospice team, Dennis and Trevor, helped us take care of her at home during her final days and we appreciate their help and support. Valley View Memorial Park and Funeral Home for helping to make the occasion memorable and taking good care of Mom.
