Maria Celia Castaneda

Maria Celia Castaneda, age 82, passed away September 13, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born September 28, 1934 in San Luis Jilotepeque, Guatemala to Virginia Castaneda and Ramon Gonzalez Martinez.

Our mother was a very hard worker. She was raised in a time where things were difficult and that’s why she cherished everything. She knew the value of hard work, which is her legacy to us. She was good at managing money. If she had gone to school, she could have been the president of the bank. She was a very happy person and transformed the bitter things into the sweet things. She laughs, was very friendly and was a champion to make people happy.

Maria is survived by her children, Roberto, Juan, Oscar, Ana, Mario, Blanca, Aracely, Adan, and Geovany.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Virgilia; her siblings, Antonio, Miguel, Isaura, Zoila, Ramon, Alberto, Efrain, Virgilio, Modesta Rosa; grandparents, Prudencio Gonzales Cerna, Isaura Martinez, Jose Miguel Aguirre, Francisca Castaneda.

Viewings will be held Friday and Saturday from 6:00-8:00 pm and one hour prior to the service on Sunday. The funeral service will be held Sunday at 11:00 am. All services will be held at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah.
