May 2, 2005 - Dec. 30, 2023
Our beloved son, brother, and uncle, Laka Girah, passed away tragically on Dec. 30, 2023 in
Salt Lake City. He was born on May 2, 2005, at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Laka was a member of the Mabaan tribe from South Sudan. On Christmas Day, he celebrated
with family and friends from the Mabaan and Sudanese communities. Laka graduated from
Granger High last spring and was on his way to starting adulthood. Basketball was his favorite
sport and he was a good shot. His favorite food was a delicious homemade soup that his
mother made. Laka had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh. He always
made a party more fun. Spending time with his niece and nephew always made their day more
special. Laka was a kind and caring person who enjoyed helping others. We will miss his
sparkling eyes, welcoming smile, and gentle spirit.
