La Verne (Verne) Millard, age 100, was called home on September 26, 2022, peacefully at home in Magna, Utah. Verne was born on September 24, 1922, in Nampa, Idaho, daughter of Roy Johnson and Frankie (Faye) Nelson. Married to Ralph Hudson Millard on September 24, 1942, in San Diego, CA. Verne and Ralph were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple in 1956, after joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Verne has always been an active member of the Church. Verne held many calling in the Church. Verne was involved in Scouting for many years. Her life revolved around serving her family and others. She was a great example of love and service. Ralph and Verne served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in the Minnesota-Minneapolis Mission, from 1985 to 1986.
Verne was very active and loved being outdoors. She loved hiking, biking, camping, swimming, and gardening. She loved to read books, especially the scriptures. Verne was kind, loving, helpful, hardworking and patient. Verne loved to quilt and teach others how to quilt. Verne was also an incredible cook. Everyone loved to be around Verne, and listen to her stories of life experiences with friends and family. Verne was the best example of Christ-Like love and service. All who knew Verne felt her love and compassion, she will be greatly missed.
Verne was preceded in death by Ralph Hudson Millard (husband), Fayellen Lohmeyer (daughter), Roy Johnson, (father), Frankie (Faye) Nelson (mother), Marvin Johnson, Raymond Johnson, David Johnson, Donald Johnson, Dale Johnson (brothers) and Ellen Johnson, Nylah Bocz, June Johnson, and Ruby Pettijohn, (sisters). Survived by son, Max Millard and daughter, Patricia (Tish) Millard. Five grandchildren, Tracy (Blaine) Buckalew, Wade (Wendy) Lohmeyer, Sara Irvine, Preston (Patty) Lohmeyer and Becky Lowe. Twelve great grandchildren, Shi (Chris) Belcher, Brandi (Code) Jenson, Daniele (Jacob) Hurst, Kirsten (Brian) Prothero, Mrissa Lohmeyer, Hudson Lohmeyer, Garrett Irvine, Remington (Lexi) Lohmeyer, Bennett Lohmeyer, Stone Lohmeyer, Taylor Wahlstrom and Lillee Lowe. Thirteen great-great grandchildren, Ashton Belcher, Hallie Jenson, Taiden Jenson, Breklyn Jenson, Maddie Hurst, Brinley Hurst, Emily Prothero, Mason Prothero, Sadie Prothero, Teagan Prothero, Clay Prothero, Kennedy Turman and Lucas Turman. Many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside Services will be held at Valley View Memorial, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 11 am.
