Joyce Rogers passed away peaceful with family by her side on Sunday, July 4, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her life began on December 1, 1945 in Phoenix, Arizona to Mildred Marguerite Murphy and Charles Kenneth Alexander. She was a devoted member her entire life to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Joyce loved to play the piano and enjoyed quilting blankets. She will always be remembered as caring and loving mother and sister, a devoted wife, and a kind grandmother.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband Clark and her four children Kelli (Traver) Riggs, Becki Mortimer, Debi (David) Wheeler, and David Rogers. She has nine grandchildren include Karrie, Brayden, and Hailey Riggs; Clare and Charlotte Mortimer; Trey, Caleb, and Keira Wheeler; Christopher Rogers. As well as her siblings; sisters Carol Alexander and Shirley (Butch) Smith and her brother Doug (Chris) Alexander.
She was raised in Phoenix and graduated from Camelback High School in 1963. In High School, she was involved in Choir and girls’ softball. Then she attended Brigham Young University and received her bachelors’ degree in Elementary Education. She taught 6th grade in Provo, Utah for eight years. While home in California for summer break, she met Clark at a church dance. A year later they were married on June 5, 1976 and then later sealed for Time and all Eternity in the St. George Temple. They began their life together in Southern California. Eventually, moving to Victorville for Clark’s work. Soon followed three daughters and a son. While being a stay at home mother, she taught piano lessons and was involved in many church callings from Primary Pianist to Relief Society presidency. She eventually returned to teaching elementary school and continued for 30 years. Joyce retired in 2015. She spent her retirement years enjoying her family and friends. She loved to read, travel to visit her grandchildren, to shop, and talk on the phone. Joyce’s life influenced many for good from her children to the many students she taught over the years. She will be greatly missed but it brings peace knowing there is eternal life and we will see her again.
