Iona Norene (Cheney) Smith

She attended Condon School, Pleasant Valley Elementary in Oregon, Kellog Elementary in Portland, Oregon and Frankland High School. In her junior year of high school she moved to Gooding, Idaho. Iona was 18 years old when she married Paul Kerman Smith on June 18, 1947 in the Idaho Falls Temple and then settled in Salt Lake City and Kearns.

Iona was a good cook, knitted beautiful afghan blankets, she loved all major holidays, especially Christmas and Santa Claus. She loved her family, loved to travel and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Iona sold Tupperware for awhile and worked at Beehive Clothing Mills. She was a loving mom, always cared for her family and was always there for her children. Iona was a loving wife of 55 years to Paul and was widowed in 2002.

Iona is survived by son, Kerman (Leroy) Smith; daughter, Ramona Mae Smith Westerman; daughter, Diana Joy Smith Willis; and daughter, Linda Gae Smith; brothers: Clifford Cheney and Cleo Cheney; 20 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; father, Royal Clifford Cheney and her mother, Alice Elisa Larsen and sister, LaRee (Cheney) Bringhurst; nephews, Dennis Ardell Cheney and Toni Bringhurst; sisters-in-law: Joanne K. Cheney and Patsey L. Cheney.

A viewing for Iona will be held Saturday, September 12, 2020 from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah 84120. A funeral service will occur Saturday, September 12, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT 84120. An interment will occur Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 12:15 PM at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT 84120.
