Harold Wayne Williams, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, quietly and peacefully passed away at the age of 94 in his home in West Valley City, Utah, surrounded by his children. He was born in Winchester, Kentucky, on February 13, 1922, to William Henry Williams and Pearl Matt Vance. When he was between the ages of one and two his family moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma, where he lived until he joined the Army Air Corps when he was nineteen years old. Towards the end of his enlistment and while he was stationed in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, he met his future wife and our mother, Allie Rae Setterington, on a blind date. They were married on July 31, 1946.
Throughout their marriage they moved many times while he was employed with Halliburton Oil Well Services. Their son, Charles Wayne (Karen) was born while they were living in Oklahoma. Their eldest daughter, Cecilia Anne Lyon (Jack) was born in Hays, Kansas, and Susan Kay was born four years later in Borger, Texas. After a few more moves they eventually ended up living for 23 of their happiest years in Rigby, Idaho, where he taught agricultural mechanics at Ricks College and was dearly loved by his students.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in his many callings. After his retirement from Ricks College he and Rae served two missions; the first to the Indiana Indianapolis Mission and a second to Zaire Africa. They began this part of their second mission in February 1991 and were able to stay only nine months when they were evacuated because of civil unrest. They finished out the last half of this mission in the Florida Ft. Lauderdale Mission.
In the year 2000 they decided to make their last move to West Valley City, Utah, where they could be close to their children and grandchildren. It was during this time that our mother and his wife of 60 years passed away on May 19, 2006. He later married Voncile Forney, on May 10, 2008. She was a dear friend of Mom and Dad's when they were living in Henderson, Kentucky. They had a few happy years together and she passed away December 14, 2013.
Dad was loved by all who knew him. He was a real people person and cherished the many friends he made from all across the United States. He was very talented and enjoyed keeping busy. He was hardworking and thrifty and could fix anything. He enjoyed working on Volkswagen Beetles and over the years refurbished four of them, the last of which he finished at the age of 83. He loved to sing and spent many years singing in barbershop quartets and was one of the best square-dance callers around. He taught himself to play several musical instruments, including guitar, piano, banjo, ukulele, and harmonica. He and our mother loved to travel and took many trips together. He liked nothing better than to get out his large atlas and spend many happy hours planning where their next road trip would take them. He loved his family most of all and loved our family gatherings where he could spend time holding his youngest great-grandchildren and talking and singing with his older ones. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be so very missed. We know that he has gone on to an amazing reunion with our mother; his second wife, Voncile; and many other family members and friends, and of course his constant companion of the last ten years of his life, Russell, his Jack Russell Terrier. Such a wonderful legacy of love, integrity, and courage he has left us. We love you Dad/Grandpa. xxx...ooo...
